IT will reclaim its box office crown in the face of competition from Kingsman: The Golden Circle and American Made. The horror reboot has been pulling in huge numbers since its release in early September, opening to a massive $123 million that broke records. In the weeks since, it’s clinched the title as (one of) the highest grossing horror films of all time, pushing past a $500 million haul at the worldwide box office and continuing to climb. The movie’s success hinged largely upon its rave reviews and cult following – fans of both Stephen King’s original novel and the 1990 mini-series were eager to see it in theaters — but it was also due, at least partially, to timing.
