The FDA has approved a cancer battling therapy drug called Yescarta. Yescarta is said to be a type of CAR T-cell therapy, a technique that modifies a subject’s immune cells so that they can attack cancer directly. FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in a statement, "Today marks another milestone in the development of a whole new scientific paradigm for the treatment of serious diseases. In just several decades, gene therapy has gone from being a promising concept to a practical solution to deadly and largely untreatable forms of cancer.” Friday's decision is only the second time the agency has approved this type of a treatment with the first being back in August.
