On Wednesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel pushed back against Washington’s rejection of the Iran nuclear deal. Iran reiterated it would not surrender to U.S. pressure and would resist U.S. “plots”, following President Donald Trump’s abandonment of the 2015 agreement last week. Major European countries have argued that the nuclear deal is the best way to stop the increasingly influential regional power from obtaining an atomic weapon. Meanwhile, Iran said that new U.S. sanctions against them were an attempt to derail efforts to save the deal.
